CISD

WCMHCC is affiliated with local/county CISD networks

What Is CISD?

Occasionally emergency personnel, medical workers, school personnel, business professionals, and the general community are confronted with unusual situations (i.e. a death in the line of duty, life threatening events, multiple casualties, etc.) that may produce strong emotional reactions.  If these stress reactions are left untreated, they may lead to flashbacks or other unpleasant psychological symptoms.

CISD is a process of helping those professional and the affected community deal with their resulting emotions and cope with the situation.   Debriefings are facilitated by trained mental health clinicians that have been   specifically trained in the CISD process.

The debriefings provide a safe and confidential atmosphere for those affected to work through their reactions to the stress situations.   CISD is a process designed to accelerate the recovery in normal people who are having normal reactions to abnormally stressful emergencies.

CISD Rationale:
People who talk about a bad incident/experience: eat better, sleep better, remain healthier, stay on the job longer, and have less disruption in their home life.

Additional Services:
In addition to debriefings the CISD team can also provide:
• Educational programs regarding critical incident stress
• Appropriate referral and resource information
